Insurance Renewal Review Checklist

A renewal is a good time to confirm that the policy still reflects how the business or property actually operates today, not just how it looked last year.

Start with what changed

Review changes in revenue, payroll, employees, services, ownership, locations, vehicles, drivers, property values, contracts, equipment, tenants, or operations. Small operational changes can affect underwriting and coverage needs.

Documents to gather

Keep the current declarations, full policy, schedules, endorsements, loss runs if available, updated payroll or sales figures, vehicle lists, property details, and any new contracts or insurance requirements.

Review limits and deductibles

Compare limits, deductibles, retentions, sublimits, defense-cost treatment, valuation, business income, and any inflation or replacement-cost assumptions.

Review names and exposures

Confirm named insureds, entities, addresses, additional insured requirements, mortgagees or loss payees, vehicle ownership, professional services, and employee counts.

Compare more than price

A lower premium may reflect a different deductible, limit, exclusion, valuation method, coverage trigger, or endorsement. Compare policy terms alongside premium before making a change.
