ECLICK E&O INSIGHTS
Cyber Sublimit vs. Standalone Cyber Insurance for Real Estate Professionals
A cyber endorsement attached to an E&O policy can be useful, but a small sublimit is not automatically equivalent to standalone cyber insurance. The important question is what the cyber coverage actually responds to and how the limit is structured.
Quick answer
A cyber sublimit is usually a limited amount of cyber-related coverage inside or attached to another policy. Standalone cyber insurance is a separate policy designed specifically around cyber events. Either may be appropriate, but they should not be compared by limit alone.
What to check in a cyber sublimit
- Which events are covered.
- Whether the limit is shared with the E&O policy.
- Whether ransomware, business email compromise or social engineering are addressed.
- Whether first-party response costs are included.
- Whether third-party privacy or network liability is included.

When standalone cyber may offer a broader structure
A standalone cyber form may provide a broader incident-response framework, separate limits and more detailed coverage for breach response, forensic investigation, data restoration, extortion, business interruption and liability claims. Actual terms vary by carrier.
Why real estate professionals should care
Real estate firms handle email, wiring instructions, contracts, personal information and cloud-based transaction systems. A professional-liability policy and a cyber policy can address different parts of that exposure.

ECLICK broker perspective
We compare the cyber endorsement to the client’s actual workflow. If the firm relies heavily on email, cloud platforms, remote access or electronic funds instructions, we look beyond the headline sublimit and review the triggers, exclusions and response services.
