ECLICK E&O INSIGHTS

Why a Lower E&O Premium Does Not Always Mean a Better Quote

A lower E&O premium can be attractive, but the cheapest quote may also change prior-acts protection, insured services, exclusions, defense-cost treatment, deductibles or sublimits. Price only makes sense after the forms are comparable.

Start by making the quotes comparable

Confirm that both quotes use the same liability limits, deductible or retention, retroactive date, insured entities and professional services.

Look for coverage that moved into a sublimit

A quote can appear similar while important coverage is capped at a much smaller amount. Fair housing, cyber, disciplinary proceedings or other features may be sublimited depending on the form.

Check exclusions and endorsements

One carrier may exclude an activity another includes, or restore coverage through a specific endorsement.

Protect claims-made continuity

A modest premium savings can become expensive if a carrier change disrupts prior-acts protection or creates a gap in reporting rights.

Defense costs can change the value of the same limit

If legal defense reduces the liability limit, the amount left for a settlement or judgment can shrink as the claim develops.

ECLICK broker perspective

We are comfortable recommending a lower-priced quote when the policy still fits the client. What we avoid is treating a lower number as a better deal before comparing the wording that sits behind it.
